2nd Annual Highlands “Amazing Race” Scavenger Hunt

  • Et Al Fine Foods 71 Waterwitch Avenue Highlands, NJ, 07732 United States (map)

400 Years of Pirating around Sandy Hook

Highlands Borough Arts Council and Rick’s Eco-Green and Clean invite you to experience the lure … and the lore of pirating in Highlands, NJ.

Highlands, NJ has a long history of pirating – both sanctioned and unsanctioned !  From the fabled 17th century Waterwitch brigantine pirate ship, to the “privateers” of the Revolutionary War, to prohibition era rum-running pirates, pirating has been part of the Highlands fabric for over 400 years.  Keep that history and long standing legacy alive by retracing the steps of legendary pirates who have made and lost fortunes in and around Sandy Hook Bay.

With an original “pirate map” and various clues, participants in this scavenger hunt will make their way to eight significant pirate destinations.  At each destination, participants will be asked to partake in a pirate activity or ritual that has set pirates apart over the centuries.
Throughout this “Amazing Race”, participants will have the opportunity to view factual and fanciful depictions of local pirate scenes created by Stacey As Pritchard.  Join us as we celebrate the bounty and booty of pirating.   Prize for best pirate costume to be presented at the final destination.
